Comprising Cebu Island and more than 150 smaller surrounding islands and islets. Its prosperous port capital, Cebu City, retains landmarks from its 16th-century Spanish colonial past, including the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño church and triangular Fort San Pedro. Tops, an observation deck on Mt. Busay, has sweeping views over the city.
Miguel López de Legazpi
On April 27, 1565, Miguel López de Legazpi and the friar Andrés de Urdaneta arrived on Cebu and founded the first Spanish settlement and Catholic mission in the Philippine archipelago.
Cebu only became a chartered city in February 24, 1937. Many Philippine cities such as Dansalan (now Marawi), Iloilo City, and Bacolod City were only incorporated as such at that time (see Cities of the Philippines).
Cebu is famous for its best tasting lechon. According to the world-famous celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, the Cebuano lechon is "the best pig ever." The island has a lot of tourist attractions to see.
More often than not, Cebu offers the most beautiful beaches and panoramas of the sea and sky.
